Transcript Narrator You’re hearing Anna’s New Start, a fictional continuing story about Anna building a new life in a new city and finding her place there. Anna works as a breakfast assistant at the Harbor Lane Hotel. Today, as she prepares for breakfast with Ms. Lopez, she notices one routine task is missing. Ms. Lopez Anna, could you check the side table before we open? The sugar bowls are ready, but I don’t see the small spoons. We have a few minutes, so let’s make sure the area is ready before guests come in. Anna Oh, I forgot to put out the small spoons. I’m sorry, Ms. Lopez. I set the bowls out, and then I moved on to the cups. I should have checked the whole table before I finished. Ms. Lopez Thanks for telling me. It’s a small task, and we still have time to fix it. Can you get the spoons from the clean supply shelf? They’re in the covered bin on the top shelf. Anna Yes. I’ll get them now. Should I bring one spoon for each sugar bowl, or do we keep a few extra there? I want to set them out the way we usually do. Ms. Lopez Put one by each bowl, and leave two extra in the drawer under the side table. That way, we can replace one if it falls or gets dirty. Please take the tray so you can carry them safely. Anna All right. I’ll bring the tray over. I’m glad you noticed before we opened. I was thinking about the cups, and I moved on too quickly. Next time I’ll check each part of the area before I say it’s ready. Ms. Lopez That’s a good plan. You don’t need to rush. The covered bin is easy to miss because it sits behind the other supplies. Just take what you need and bring the bin cover back into place. Anna I found them. There are clean spoons in the bin. I’ll put one next to each bowl, with the handles facing the same way. Then I’ll leave two extras in the drawer, as you said. Ms. Lopez That looks good. Before you put the tray away, can you count the bowls and spoons once? It’s a simple check, and it will help us know that each bowl has one. Anna There are six bowls and six spoons on the table. I put two more in the drawer. I checked the handles too, and they’re all facing the same way. The side table is ready now. Ms. Lopez Thank you. When you finish one area, what could help you remember the small items next time? We already use a list for the breakfast setup, so maybe there is a clear place to add them. Anna I could check the table list, but this side table isn’t on it. I thought about using the little setup card by the shelf, but I’m not sure that card is for this area. Ms. Lopez You’re right to check. That card is for the coffee station. We can add a note to the breakfast setup list instead. It already has the other tables and stations on it, so one extra line should fit. Anna That makes sense. Could we add “sugar bowls and spoons” after the cup check? Then I can follow the list from one item to the next, and I won’t have to remember the small details on my own. Ms. Lopez Yes, that’s clear. I’ll write it there now. You can check the list when you start this area, then mark the line after you finish it. If something changes, you can ask me before you set it up. Anna Thanks. I’ll do that next time. I forgot to check the spoons today, but I’ve put them out now and the list will help me remember. I’ll also take a moment to look over the whole table before I move on. Ms. Lopez That sounds right. The list is there to support the routine, not to make your work harder. If a line is unclear, tell me, and we can make it clearer together. For today, you fixed the missing item and checked the count. Anna I will. The bowls and spoons are ready, and I’ve checked the other items on the list. I feel better knowing I corrected it before service. We can open the room when you’re ready. Ms. Lopez I’m ready. Thanks for catching the missing spoons and fixing it before service. Let’s welcome the first guests. Next time, you’ll have the new line there to check as you set up.
